Google Launches Multiple Initiatives in Thailand

02 August 2018

Google Thailand has announced a number of cutting-edge digital projects, including free high-speed Internet, Motorcycle Mode by Google Maps and the construction of Academy Bangkok – A Google Space.

Motorcycle Mode will allow more than 20 million Thai riders plan their trips using the shortest routes accessible to bikes and scooters only, the head of Google Maps said.

Google has also brought Google Station, its high-speed public Wi-Fi program, to Thailand. Now Thais can get online with Google Station at ten venues across Bangkok, including Mega Bangna Shopping Mall, Hua Lamphong station, and at locations in Phichit and Loei provinces. Next month, Google Station will expand to other regions.

To access the web, users go to Wi-Fi@FreeGoogleStation-CAT and type in their name and phone number. Thailand joins India, Indonesia, and Mexico as the fourth country to use Google Station.

In addition, a digital skills training facility, Academy Bangkok – A Google Space, will open by year-end at True Digital Park in Bangkok. The Academy will provide training to participants of the Google Ignite program, a two-month digital marketing course that prepares university students for careers with Thai companies.
