Mon Floating Boat Festival Coming to Kanchanaburi

16 August 2018

The annual Mon Floating Boat Festival will be held on 23-25 September at Wang Wiwekaram Temple in Sangkhlaburi, Kanchanaburi.

This small town is renowned for its Mon Bridge, the longest wooden bridge in Thailand, underwater temple Muang Badan, and Ban Wang Ka Mon, the ethnic community that celebrates this colorful festival to pay homage to their ancestors.

During the first two days, locals prepare and decorate bamboo boats and load them with fruit, sugar cane, desserts, floral arrangements and candles. The festival culminates on the third day, when the boats are towed to the Samprasob river, where they leave the offerings to treat the departed.
