Thailand Cracks Down on Smoking in Public Areas

26 February 2019

Following the amendments to the 2017 Tobacco Control Act and a 2018 Public Health Ministry directive announced in November 2018, a large number of smoke-free zones have been introduced nationwide. Smoking is prohibited within five meters of bus stops, taxi stands, bus and train terminals, and ports. Violators will face a fine of up to THB5,000 (around US$160). ‘No smoking’ signs have already been installed on Pattaya’s Bali Hai Pier.
