Thai authorities have set an agenda to promote eco-tourism on Koh Chang in Trat province. Seven proposals regarding the development of the island's potential have already been accepted.
Plans include road construction, development of a reservoir, improvement of the waste separation plant, a feasibility study and design for a wastewater treatment plant, and development of a public pier to facilitate a link between the island and Chonburi’s Sattahip. Development of public health facilities to accommodate tourism and the establishment of a workforce training center for tourism and service businesses is also among the priorities.
By 2021, Koh Chang is projected to welcome more than 5 million tourists a year.
