In an ambitious effort to turn Phuket into a “smart city”, local officials are introducing an electronic wristband system using ‘big data’ technology to analyze tourists’ habits.
The initiative will promote the region’s tourism potential, enhance visitor safety, and protect the environment, officials say, adding that the electronic wristbands will be used to track foreign tourists and identify their location in case of emergency. Other improvements include bringing the number of free wi-fi hotspots to 1,000.
The campaign is set for implementation next year.
