Buddhism Promotion Week events have started at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang ceremonial grounds. Buddhists from all over the Kingdom have flocked to the capital to pay their respect to Gautama Buddha and Dharma, his teaching, as well as to worship the sacred relics.
Celebrations will continue until 28 July, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s birthday. On that day, a special candle vigil will be held and the royal anthem will be sung to mark the occasion.
Buddhist relics were brought to Bangkok from across the country. The exhibits represent the five historic eras of Thailand - Tawaravadee, Lanna, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin.
