Hua Hin International Airport will get a considerable facelift over the next five years. The scope of work includes remodeling of the existing passenger facilities, construction of a new terminal, and extension of runways from 35 to 40 m to handle large aircraft. After the renovation, the airport’s capacity will increase by tenfold to 3 million passengers a year. The Airports Department will spend THB 3.5 billion on the project.
The airport upgrade is part of ‘Riviera Thailand’, a large-scale infrastructure development aimed at boosting tourism in communities along the Kingdom’s Andaman Coast. Another important part of the Master Plan is construction of a world-class highway with bike lanes along the Gulf coast, which will link Bangkok and Hua Hin. Work is now underway and expected to be completed in five years.
