A large-scale anti-smoking campaign will be rolled out in Phuket on 23 September. It was designed to protect non-smokers, as local authorities are seriously concerned about the hazards of passive smoking.
The new anti-smoking effort enforces the new Tobacco Products Control Act. The list of public places free from cigarette smoke will be extended to include the Old City and the Lard Yai Sunday market. Violators will face a THB 5,000 (US $150) fine.
