Russian tourism to Thailand has surged this year, up 16% over the same period last year. The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), says that more than 900,000 Russian visitors have landed in the Land of Smiles so far this year. The tourist flow peaked between January and April. During the first month of the year, 226,000 Russians visited the Kingdom. In summer, the number dropped to fewer than 50,000, ATOR reported. Over the first seven months of 2018, Russian travelers spent THB 72 billion (around US$2.2 billion) in Thailand, approximately THB 80,000 (US$ 2,400) per person, the association says.
