The Thai government has approved the Southern Economic Corridor project to develop trade capacity in Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. Other provinces are likely to be added in the future.
The project includes development of Ranong seaport as a major gateway to Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and India, construction of a rail link between the Eastern Economic Corridor and Chumphon, and enhancement of agricultural product processing industry in Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The Thai Riviera infrastructure development project, which should improve tourism in communities along the Kingdom’s Andaman Coast between Phetchaburi and Chumphon, is also a government priority.
