The traditional Yi Peng festival, otherwise known as the Festival of Lights, will be held in Chiang Mai between 20 and 23 November. Celebrated alongside Loy Krathong, it is one of the most spectacular events in the Kingdom, attracting thousands of tourists to the province.
However, this year, launching lanterns is only allowed on 22 November between 10:00 and 12:00 p.m. The move was designed to ensure aircraft safety. Offenders will face one year in jail or a THB 60,000 (around US$1,830) fine.
