The sale of alcohol will be suspended during the country’s election weekend, from 6pm on March 23 until the same time the following day. A similar 24-hour ban was introduced last weekend, on the pre-voting day.
Election Commission secretary-general Jarungvith Phumma confirmed that that weddings and parties could still be held on these dates but the use of alcohol would be strictly forbidden.
A ban on alcohol sales on 13 April, the first day of Songkran, is now being deliberated.
