According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, five new national parks have been added since the start of the reign of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn. They include Namtok Chet Sao Noi, Khun Sathan, Mae Takhrai, Than Sadet — Koh Phangan, and Doi Chong.
Establishment of new national parks is part of the Thailand’s 20-Year National Strategic Plan aimed at increasing the forest area to 55% of the entire country by 2037.
At present, there are 133 national parks in the Kingdom, the oldest of which is Khao Yai set up in 1962.
