A team of twelve Thai nuns are working 10 hours a day to create more than bespoke 200 garments for Pope Francis and accompanying bishops. The robes are made of silk produced by Jim Thompson, the Kingdom’s most renowned silk company.
The bishops will use 120 robes at the first mass, and the other 76 at the second mass.
Pope Francis will be wearing a gold and white chasuble during the Holy Mass at the National Stadium on 21 November, whilst a red chasuble has been selected for the Holy Mass for youths at the Assumption Cathedral on 22 November. Both robes will be embroidered with elaborate Thai bird patterns. The bishops’ vestments will feature printed patterns rather than embroidery.
The papal visit to the Kingdom is scheduled for 21-24 November.
