Bangkok’s Silom, Yaowarat, and Khao San roads have been officially turned into pedestrian-only zones. The opening ceremony held on 15 December was headed by Thailand’s Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha.
The trial period will run until May next year, during which time the Walking Street@Silom will be open on Sundays from midday to midnight. It is expected to become a major attraction for foodies, music lovers and street art enthusiasts.
The project is part of nationwide efforts aimed at spurring the economy and promoting tourism. More Sunday walking streets have been launched in 76 provinces across the Kingdom.
