A partial solar eclipse will be visible in 14 provinces across Thailand on Thursday, 26 December. It will be best viewed in the South of the Kingdom, whilst Singapore, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and India will see 100% coverage. In Bangkok, the sun will be obscured by 56%, and by 40% in Chiang Mai. But Yala in the southernmost point of Thailand will witness the most impressive 81% obstruction of the sun. According to the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand, the eclipse can be admired in the following provinces: • Chiang Rai — from 10:23 till 13:44 • Chiang Mai —from 10:19 till 13:44 • Nakhon Savan — from 10:19 till 13:53 • Bangkok — from 10:19 till 13:57 • Prachuap Khiri Khan — from 10:16 till 13:58 • Khon Kaen — from 10:29 till 14:01 • Nakhon Ratchasima — from 10:25 till 14:01 • Ubon Ratchathani — from 10:34 till 14:09 • Chachoengsao — from 10:21 till 13:59 • Surat Thani (Koh Samui) — from 10:16 till 14:01 • Phuket — from 10:11 till 13:57 • Songkhla — from 10:16 till 14:15 • Yala District, Betong — from 10:18 till 14:08 • Narathiwat — from 10:20 till 14:10 If it's cloudy, you won't even notice the eclipse. However, if it’s a clear day, make sure you use special eye protection. Looking at the sun directly without proper equipment or through a camera can cause blindness.
