This year, the Thai Department of Highways intends to spend THB124 billion (around US$4 billion) on large-scale infrastructure projects, of which five have been budgeted and are ready to be put up for tender. Contracts for those projects are expected to be executed in May.
There will be a 16 km long Thai-Lao friendship bridge between Thailand’s Bueng Kan province and Laos’ Bolikhamsai province, a 16 km long eastern bypass around Thailand’s Nong Khai and the Laos border, a 25 km long motorway connecting Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian district and Samut Sakhon’s Ban Phaeo district, a 24 km outer ring road for Nakhon Ratchasima, and a 26 km four-lane road linking Phang Nga and Surat Thani, some of Thailand’s most dynamic developing tourist regions, with northbound roads and railways.
A 22 km highway which will link the Eastern Economic Corridor and Rayong’s U-Tapao airport is now pending a final decision.
