Thailand’s Department of Disease Control has issued a press release confirming eights imported cases of the Wuhan coronavirus in the Kingdom, of which five patients have recovered from their illnesses and returned to their homes and three remain in hospitals. The release stresses that currently there is no virus outbreak in Thailand. As previously reported, the Department of Disease Control doubled down on efforts to prevent the spread of the virus by screening passengers arriving from cities near China's Wuhan at the five main international airports, including Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi. In an attempt to contain the outbreak, the Chinese government suspended the city's public transportation system, including buses, subways, ferries, trains and flights, and encouraged people to comply with the following recommendations: · Avoid travelling to Wuhan and cities that were announced as outbreak areas; · While abroad, please wear a mask, regularly wash hands with water and soap or use an alcohol gel; · Avoid visiting crowded places, markets selling live animals; · Make sure the meat you eat is well-cooked, · Do not use or share personal stuff with others (i.e. handkerchieves, glasses, and towels) since pathogens causing respiratory disease can be transmitted to other people through secretions; · Get enough sleep and always keep your body warm; and · If you have symptoms including fever, coughing, sneezing, panting or runny nose after arriving from risky areas, please seek medical care at the hospital immediately and inform the health care provider regarding the history of recent travel to China.
