Thailand’s skyrocketing economy has spurred development of new berthing facilities for seagoing vessels. The program, which involves the Immigration Bureau, Revenue, Customs and Marine departments, promotes the Kingdom as ASEAN’s leading maritime hub.
In 2017, eight new piers are to be built in five Thai provinces, including two in Phuket, two in Phang Nga, two on Samui (Suratthani’s most famous island), one in Trat and one in Chonburi. The facilities will be capable of handling large ships and super yachts.
