The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports has announced a contest involving the entire country, TRweekly reports. All local communities and districts were grouped into five thematic clusters and asked to select what they believe is their best destination. The nominees will vie for a national award and recognition.
The five thematic clusters are as follows: Lanna Culture, South Isan, Active Beach, Royal Coast and Andaman. The decision will be based on environmental preservation and conservation, art and culture, wisdom and local way of life, and creative activities to serve tourists.
The authorities have high hopes for the contest and believe it to spur tourism development in the regions.
The winners will be finalised by 24 May after careful review of the submissions.
