On 9 June, the 70th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne was widely celebrated throughout the country.
Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, is the world’s longest-reining monarch. Deeply honored and revered by all Thai people, the 88-year old king has been the anchor of stability and prosperity for decades.
The festivities began with a religious ceremony in Bangkok led by 770 Buddhist monks. To mark the important day, the Bank of Thailand unveiled a special edition commemorative 70-baht banknote.
