August 12 is a very special day for all Thai people. This is the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit which is also observed as National Mother's Day since she is believed to be the mother of the nation.
This holiday is widely celebrated throughout the Kingdom. The festivities include cultural, sports and charity events. Streets are lavishly decorated with blue flags representing Friday, the day of the Queens’ birth. Women are traditionally given fragrant jasmine flowers as an enduring symbol of maternal love.
To mark the occasion, Ramayana, the country’s largest Pattaya-based water park, has offered free entry for all mothers on 12-14 August.
