From October 2015 through July 2016, Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport handled a record 40 million passengers - a 5.73 percent increase over the same period the previous year.
The considerable rise in arrivals resulted from the growing popularity of Thai resorts among foreign and local tourists, the government said. The increase in passengers has not affected the airport’s operation due to the addition of new, cutting-age facilities. Moreover, state-of-the-art terminals are about to open in Pattaya and Phuket airports, making these cities alternatives to Bangkok’s major international gateway.
