The Thai government said it would apply to have Chiang Mai’s Pha Chor Canion listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located in the Mae Wang National Park, it is a 30-meter cliff that resembles a monolithic wall or Roman pillar. Geologists believe that ages ago, this area was part of the Ping River. Due to its unusual natural features, Pha Chor is often dubbed the Grand Canyon of Thailand.
Tourism authorities and National Park experts are developing a new route along the canyon as well as other nearby natural attractions.
