The annual Songkran water festivities will get underway in Bangkok soon, but this year’s celebration will be more subdued than in past years, as the nation is still in mourning for its late King.
Activities this year will be restricted to the water splashing and merrymaking, but dancing, music and other revelry will be forbidden in the Thai capital - including on Khaosan Road, the city’s major tourist and entertainment hub.
The decision to water down activities was made by municipal Bangkok authorities, local police and the Khaosan Road Business Association. Shopping and dining venues will operate as usual.
